Sponsored Walk May 2015

The 2015 sponsored walk took place on Sunday 17th May.

Brentford and Beyond.

Starting in Brentford we walked along a section of the Grand Union Canal and then the Thames Path to Kew Bridge and returned on the Richmond side of the river to Richmond Lock Bridge. Crossing the river we returned via Old Isleworth to Brentford.

The start of the walk. We met at Syon Park, nice and early, and were ready to tackle Brentford and Beyond.

After leaving Syon Park we reached the Grand Union Canal Walk at the bridge in Brentford. It is fascinating how many boats there are moored along the canal, many with an array of plants on the roofs and decks.

Brentford Marina and a peaceful sunny Sunday scene.

Brentford Market for a short browse on our way through the town centre.

"Who knew Kew had a pond," as one of the walkers said. Not only a pond but swans as well.

The Weir with a plaque relating how JMW Turner lived there with his uncle in 1785. Brentford in those days was a small town on the banks of the Thames

The Thames Path on theĀ  Kew-Richmond side of the river is very green and quite rural in comparison with the flats and more industrial buildings on the Brentford stretch of the walk. The view of Old Isleworth across the river cannot have changed much in many decades.

A welcome break for lunch and then into the final stretch back to the cars.
